Christ: A Foundation Built to Last

Hello CrossWay! It has been such a joy to study the book of Colossians with you this fall. As we have walked through the book, we have learned what it means to build a strong foundation for our lives with Christ as the cornerstone. We have walked through a number of glorious passages that show us the beauty, majesty, wonder, and power of our Lord Jesus Christ.

To have a foundation that is built to last, we must realize who we are in Christ. When we do that it changes our thinking. We have been brought from death to life through the work of Christ. Because of this glorious truth we now are empowered to live our lives through Christ. He becomes the focus, the grid, the standard by which we view our lives.

Because we have been united to Christ, we have an everlasting hope for our future that transforms how we live today

We aren't just changed in some abstract sense, but very practically our lives are different. Our new identity in Christ affects every area of our lives.

In the Christian life, we have a new "wardrobe". As His children, we are called to "put on Christ" in our everyday life and relationships.

Putting on Christ in our Marriage: Some Questions to ask your Spouse

Over the last couple weeks on Sunday morning, we've talked about it looks like to honor God in our marriages, families, and work life.

First, here are some questions for husbands and wives to help us grow in our marriages:

For Husbands to ask

  • How are you encouraged in your faith and life right now?
  • How are you discouraged in your faith and life right now?
  • How can I pray for you?
  • How can I grow as a husband, father, and Christian?

For wives to ask:

  • What has Christ been teaching you lately?
  • How can I support you in our marriage?
  • Do I champion you to our kids, our grandkids, my friends?
  • Do you feel encouraged by me in our everyday life?
  • Are their ways I can better encourage you and help you grow?

Putting on Christ at Work: Some Questions to Ask yourself

As an employee:

  • Do I do my work for the glory of God?
  • Do I honestly work hard?
  • Do I work with enthusiasm?
  • Do I work wholeheartedly?
  • Do I do excellent work, to the best of my ability?

As an employer or manager:

  • Do I care for my employees well?
  • Am I aware of their needs?
  • How do my employees view me? Do they view you as a fair and honest boss?
  • Do you take the time to invest in them as employees, but more importantly as people?
  • Do they know where you stand with Christ? If someone asked them, would they know that I am a disciple, a follower of Christ?

It has been such a joy learning and growing together with you through God's Word.

See you Sunday!
